POSTNET or Postal Numeric Encoding Technique was developed by the USPS to encode zip code information to improve speed, accuracy, and delivery of mail. It allows for rapid and reliable sorting by barcode sorters and provides additional automation discounts for bulk mailings.
CDYNE Postal Address Verification automatically generates the data for a POSTNET barcode for each address. It is appended in the “PostnetBarcode” field. The data return includes Zip + 4 code, two-digit delivery point code, and the delivery point check digit.
Automation discounts for mail with POSTNET barcodes will continued to be offered beyond May 2011. The USPS relaxed their former requirements and discontinuation date of May 2011 in an effort to allow for an easier transition to the full use of Intelligent Mail barcodes. CDYNE Postal Address Verification Web Service also includes
Intelligent Mail barcode return data.
